WHICH WOMEN NEED DONOR OOCYTES

In certain circumstances (premature menopause, poor quality of oocytes, etc ...) some women need to resort to donor oocytes in order to get pregnant.

WHO CAN BE A OOCYTES DONOR?

All women are born with about 2 million oocytes. This number will decrease over time. Only women under 35 years can be donor of oocytes. They must be in good physical and psychological conditions and meet other requirements. The number of donations is limited to three, spaced by at least six months. The donation of oocytes is voluntary, of benevolent character and unpaid (although there is a financial compensation for the donor expenses and losses resulting from the donation).

The donation is anonymous, i.e.,  nor the recipient couple or children born as a result of the donation may have access to any identification of the donor, except for serious reasons recognized by court decision (nº 4 of the art. 15 of the law nº 32/2006, 26 de July).
